TENNESSEE WILLIAMS
Theatro Domatiou presents Tennessee Williams’ play
“A Streetcar named Desire”, directed by Angela Brouskou.
Tennessee Williams places the ruins of the american society on a pedestal, where everything seems enchanting. Just like the illusion of the american dream of a better life, of a society of freedom, prosperity and easy enrichment.
America in the 50s, America today, the american lifestyle and the way it affects our own everyday life and behaviour, Hollywood’ s mythology, music and musicals, the vivid portrayal of the margins of society, advertising, the charm of Disneyland’ s super heroes, all these compose the landscape that serves as the social context of the play.
In this landscape everyone heads towards the satisfaction of their desires, at any cost. It is the only thing they possess.
